Loma Portal Foundation

Educational Support

Instructional Programs

  • Weekly library visits with an adored and enthusiastic librarian.

  • Weekly exploration of science, technology, engineering, art, and math guided by our amazing STEAM teacher, in our own dedicated STEAM lab, equipped with state of the art technology such as 3D printers and Cubetto, LEGO, and PIPER Robotics programs.

  • Weekly music lessons through an artist-in-residence program culminating in end of term student performances, as well as music assemblies throughout the year to introduce an array of music styles and cultures to the students and staff.

  • A school garden with accompanying curriculum supported by staff and Foundation volunteers.

Each year, over half of the $135,000 that the Loma Portal Foundation spends in the classroom is spent on supplemental instructional programs not provided by the district. These funds afford Loma Portal students the opportunity to participate in:

Classroom Support

The second largest distribution of funds from the Foundation goes directly into the classrooms.

We provide classroom- and grade-specific supplies such as:

  • Math and literacy digital subscriptions (BrainPOP, Starfall, etc).

  • Equipment for hatching chicken eggs and insects/butterflies for lifecycle units.

  • Microphone packs for class performances.

  • School-wide supplies, such as color printers.

  • And, up to two field trips per grade level per year.

Additionally, the Foundation knows that our teachers are the core of our school and often need materials unique to their curriculum; we proudly provide an annual classroom stipend so they can continue to supply Loma Portal students with the best education possible.

Campus Improvements

The Loma Portal Foundation works with the principal and staff to support campus beautification and improvement projects.

On-going projects include:

  • art supplies to paint the rock wall during Kindness Week,

  • hanging student art tiles,

  • installing legacy bricks,

  • and, commissioning murals around campus.

The Foundation works to ensure the Loma Portal campus shines as bright as it did when it first welcomed students in 1914.

Larger improvement projects funded by the Foundation include:

  • creating a dedicated STEAM lab and school garden,

  • upgrading the library with a new mural, an updated computer, and additional books,

  • renovating the staff lounge and Foundation workroom,

  • and, in the coming year, updating the auditorium’s audio/visual systems.
