LIBRARY
Weekly visits with Ms. H are a highlight for many Dolphins. Our beloved—and endlessly enthusiastic—librarian brings books to life with creative lessons, infectious energy, and, more often than not, an outfit to match.
But the Library's impact reaches well beyond weekly visits. Ms. H creates special performances and experiences throughout the year, including celebrations for Read Across America Week, Poem in My Pocket Day, Earth Day, and more—making the Library a place where stories, creativity, and learning come alive.
STEAM
STEAM at Loma Portal is entering an exciting new chapter.
With the departure of our incredible STEAM teacher and campus renovations changing the use of our dedicated lab space, we had an opportunity to reimagine what STEAM could look like for our students. We turned to the experts—and Mission Bay Aquatic Center answered the call, developing a program specifically for Loma Portal.
Their instructors now bring hands-on STEAM learning directly into our classrooms each week for grades 1–4. As they develop programming specifically for TK and Kindergarten, the Foundation will continue bringing visiting programs and instructors to campus so our youngest Dolphins have engaging, age-appropriate STEAM experiences of their own.
WORLD MUSIC & CULTURE
Through our partnership with the Center for World Music, Loma Portal students don't simply learn music—they experience the people, traditions, and cultures that bring it to life.
Each artist-in-residence is an expert in their musical tradition, giving students the opportunity to explore music and culture from around the world. Over the years, our Dolphins have journeyed through the sounds and traditions of the Pacific Islands, South Africa, Brazil, Zimbabwe, Cuba, and beyond—all without leaving campus.
This year, we're expanding that experience for our youngest Dolphins. TK and Kindergarten students now have a weekly Music & Movement class led by a professional ballerina from San Diego Ballet, combining music, rhythm, creative movement, and plenty of opportunities for little bodies to move.

Public funding provides the essential resources that operate our school, but it doesn't cover the full cost of the enriched programs, experiences, and additional support our community values.
